Larry Oakley
Drums As Brian Adams sang, it was in the summer of ’69.
Except it wasn’t a brand new six string and it was in the fall
of ’69 when Larry’s mother bought his first Rogers drum set which
would send him down a musical path that has spanned four decades.
Cutting his musical teeth in Mt.Vernon, Ia. under the
direction of Don Stine, Larry moved with his family to north central Ark. where he became band Captain and was recipient of the John Phillip Sousa band award in his senior year of high school.
Then followed three years at the University of Central Ark, majoring in music education
and playing jazz under AC Buddy Himes as well as some study in Nashville in audio recording under Grand Ole Opry sound engineer Vic Gabany.
After playing with the top 40 band Vision in the Little Rock area,
Larry made his way back to Iowa and was a member of the Real Loves, a rockabilly/rhythm & blues band founded by the late Hotel David.
Since that time in the mid 80’s, Larry performed with several other Cedar Rapids based bands such as: The Celebration, The Nashville Exchange, Calamity Jane, HighWater, Birddog & Double Shot, Jackknife and OHM’s Law to name a few.
A former founding member, Larry is once again providing the rhythmic pulse behind Full Circle.. |
